Via ferratas on the Eiger and above the Mürren cliffs, high tours from the Jungfraujoch: Wengen is base camp.

Two via ferratas are within reach: the Eiger Rotstock right on the Eiger north face and the spectacular route from Mürren to Gimmelwald. And from the Jungfraujoch, high-alpine terrain begins – with the Mönchsjoch hut, the highest serviced hut in Switzerland.

For via ferratas and high tours, sturdy mountain boots, weatherproof layers and a well-fitting backpack are what count. We are happy to advise you. For high tours we recommend a mountain guide.

Via ferratas & high tours

  • Eiger Rotstock via ferrata

    K2 · from Eigergletscher 2,320 m · 260 m of via ferrata to 2,663 m · June to September

    Climbing with a north-face feel, approx. 45 minutes’ approach from Eigergletscher station. Not in snow, heavy rain or icy conditions; rockfall possible.

  • Via ferrata Mürren – Gimmelwald

    K3 · 1 June to 31 October · 9 am–6 pm

    This via ferrata leads not up but down – along the cliff face to Gimmelwald. Introductory video mandatory; with a guide for the inexperienced.

  • Mönchsjoch hut from the Jungfraujoch

    3,658 m · approx. 45 min · mid-May to mid-October

    Along the high-alpine path to the highest serviced hut in Switzerland. For summits like the Mönch, the Jungfrau Railways recommend a mountain guide.

Start early: thunderstorms often build up in the mountains in the afternoon, and a via ferrata is no place to be then.

Frequently asked questions

Which via ferrata is suitable for beginners?

At K2, the Eiger Rotstock is somewhat easier than Mürren–Gimmelwald (K3). Both require a head for heights and the right equipment; for a first time we recommend a mountain guide.
